The Urban Iron is a moderately to highly difficult fitness challenge — but the level of challenge depends on your fitness background, especially in strength, endurance, and functional movement.
It’s doable with training. We anticipate most athletes to complete it, but it will push you out of your comfort zone.
You need grit. The cumulative fatigue from running and stations makes pacing and mindset critical.
-
In the weeks leading up to the event, we’ll share the route with you multiple times to make sure you're familiar with it.
You’ll also receive a Strava link in advance, and a printed version of the route will be on the back of your punchcard, which all athletes are required to carry.
On event day, there will be route runners and volunteers to help guide you…but ultimately, it’s a self-guided course, and you’re free to choose your own path between checkpoints.
-
This isn’t an officially timed race, but there is a timing element — each studio has a designated closing window, and athletes who don’t arrive within that timeframe won’t be able to continue the challenge.
-
This will depend on your speed and fitness level. For faster athletes (sub-8-minute pace), we anticipate a finish time of under 1.5 hours.
-
We have 110 athletes competing on June 22nd.
-
Nope! This is an individual effort. While you'll be assigned to heats based on your estimated pace, once you arrive at a studio, you jump straight into the workout—and as soon as you’re done, you head back out on your run.
-
There will be hydration stations at the studios as well as at the end of the Williamsburg bridge.
Athletes are also permitted to carry their own water.
-
We are on rain or shine.
-
Athletes can drop their bags at the Ice Cold Club before kickoff at Domino Park — or travel light and go without!
There will be bathrooms and changing rooms at the Ice Cold Club.
